Bài 1.4: Phân biệt a few và (very) few; a little và (very) little.

Phân biệt a few và (very) few; a little và (very) little.

1.      A few and (very) few
Xem ví dụ:
a.      Do you have a few munites? I want to ask you some question.
b.      She is lonely she have (very) few friends.
Như ví dụ a: Do you have a few minutes? = Do you have some/ one/ two/ several minutes? Như bạn đã thấy “a few” có thể thay thế cho “some”, several, “one”, “two” ..., nên bạn cũng đừng bó buộc nghĩa của nó nhé.
Đối với few or very few nó lại mang nghĩa phủ định dùng để nói về thứ hầu như không có, không tồn tại. Như câu ví dụ b: She is lonely she has (very) friends = she is lonely she doesn’t have many friends (cô ấy rất cô đơn cô ấy không có nhiều bạn) = she is lonely she has amost no friend (cô ấy cô đơn cô ấy hầu như không có bạn).
Bạn có thể xem vài ví dụ dưới đây để rõ hơn:
·        Now day, a few people think that the earth is square.
·        Now day, (very) few people think that the earth is square (ngày nay, hầu như chẳng ai nghĩ rằng trái đất hình vuông và thực tế bạn chẳng biết người nào nghĩ vậy)
·        A few dinosaurs still exist (một vài con khủng còn tồn tại và bạn có thể tìm thấy ở đâu đó như “đảo khủng long” chẳng hạn thì bạn mới được sử dụng câu này.)
·        Very few dinosaurs still exist (hầu như chẳng con khủng long nào tồn tại – bạn không thể tìm ra bất kỳ con nào.)
2.      A little and (very) little
Tương tự như a few và (very) few thì a little cũng mang nghĩa khẳng định dùng để nói về những thứ có, có thật và tồn tại; còn (very) little mang nghĩa phủ định dùng để nói về thứ hầu như không có, không tồn tại.
·        Why don’t we go to the movie? I have a little (some) money (Tại sao chúng ta không đi xem phim? Tôi có một chút tiền và nó đủ để mua vé đấy.)
·        I have very little (not much/ almost no) money. I don’t have enough money for dinner.

a few
=
some, several, one, two, three…
(very) few
=
not many, almost no, hardly any…
A little
=
some
(very) little
=
not much, almost no

Tương tự bạn có thể tự dịch:
After Nam tasted the soup, he added a little salt to it.
Nam doesn’t like a lot of dalt on his food so he adds very little salt to his food.
I don’t like tea so I drink very little tea he gives me.
I like music. I listen to a little music before I go to bed.
I think that a little lemon juice on fish makes its taste better.
Lan got high mark. She made very few mistakes.
I am hungry so I ate a few nuts.
I don’t like others so I have very few friends.
