Ví dụ: I have bananas và I have a banana có sự khác biệt rõ ràng, bạn có nhận thất mạo từ “a” ở trước banana không? Ví dụ: I have gold; ở đây bạn sẽ chẳng biết tôi có bao nhiêu vàng, nhiều hay it? Vì vậy bạn phải có những từ đi kèm như: I have a litte gold hay I have a lot of gold để thể hiện.

VD: banana > bananas, table > tables, boy > boys, girl > girls…
2.      Thêm es.
Các danh từ có đuôi sh, ch, s, z, x được thêm “es” khi chuyển từ số ít sang số nhiều.
VD: box > boxes, fox > foxes…
VD: baby > babies; boy > boyes, boy > boys…
echo – echoes, hero – heroes; potato – potatoes; tomato – tomatoes…
calf - calves
life - lives
thief - thieves
half - halves
loaf - loaves
wolf - wolves
knife - knives
self - selves
scarf - scarves/ scarfs
leaf - leaves
shelf - shelves
man - men
ox - oxen
tooth - teeth
woman - women
foot - feet
mouse - mice
child - children
goose - geese
louse - lice

one deer - two deer
one series - two series
one fish - two fish
one sheep - two sheep
one means - two means
one shrimp - two shrimp
one offspring - two offspring
one species - two species

criterion - criteria
analysis - analyses
phenomenon - phenomena
basis - bases
crisis - crises
cactus - cacti/ cactuses
hypothesis - hypotheses
fungus - fungi
oasis - oases
nucleus - nuclei
parenthesis - parentheses
stimulus - stimuli
thesis - theses
syllabus - syllabi/ syllabuses
bacterium - bacteria
formula - formulae/ formulas
curriculum - curricula
vertebra - vertebrae
datum - data
medium - media
appendix - appendices/ appendixes
memorandum - memoranda
index - indices/ indexes
