Bài 1.8: Both…and, not only…but also, either…or, neither…nor.

1.           Adverb clause words dùng để nói các mệnh đề trong câu như: because, since, so, now that, even though, though, although, whereas, while, if, unless, only if, event if, whether or not, in case, in the envent that…Bạn thường bắt gặp các từ này trong cấu các cấu trúc câu:
a.                       Abverb clause word + clause + “,” + clause hay
b.                       Clause + Abverb clause word + clause
2.           Transtions dùng để nối các câu với nhau gồm: therefore, consequently, however, nevertheless, nontheless, on the other hand, otherwise… VD: John is rich; however, Marry is poor.
3.           Prepositions (gọi là giới từ thì có vẻ không đúng lắm nên để vậy thôi nhé): because of, due to, despite, in spite of…theo sau chúng luôn luôn là một danh từ.
4.           conjunction dùng để nối các thành phần trong câu, các mênh đề: so, for, but, yet, or, and, both…and, not only…but also, neither…nor, either…or…

I live in Thanh Hoa. (một câu và đồng thời 1 mệnh đề)
While I was studying, my mother went in and saw me.

1.       Both…and

a)                  Both I and he like the movie (Both noun (Subject)  and noun (S))
b)                  I like both tea and coffee. (Both noun (Object)  and noun (O))
c)                   He is both smart and handsome (both adj and adj)
d)                  He both ran and cried (both verb and verb)

2.       Not only…but also

a)       Not only teachers but also students are here. (not only noun but also noun)
b)      He not only scolded but also beat her. (not only verb but also verb)
c)       He is not only smart but also handsome.
d)      He not only had a cat but also had a dog (a dog).
a)       Not only she is smart but also she study very hard.

3.       Either…or
a)       You like either tea or coffee.
b)      Either student or teacher is planning to come here.
c)       Either students or teachers are planning to come here.
d)      I will take either chemistry or physics next quarter.
e)       I will either play football or go home after class.

4.       Neither…nor

a.         Neither my mother nor my sister is here. (= Both my mother and my sister are not here. Cả mẹ và chị tôi không có ở đây.)
b.        Neither my mother and my father nor my sisters are here. (= both my parent and my sisters are not here. Bố mẹ và các chị tôi không có ở đây.)
c.         That book is neither interesting nor accurate.
d.        I like to neither play football nor ran.

a)     I am not smart, neither study I hard.
b)     I am not smart, nor study i hard.
c)     Neither am I smart, nor study I hard.
