221. Mài Dao Dạy Vợ

Ngày xưa, có một người nhà quê rất hiền lành lấy phải một người vợ độc ác. Nhà còn một mẹ già, bà cụ lại khắc khổ lắm điều thành hai bên mẹ chồng, nàng dâu cứ lục đục xô xát luôn, không mấy khi được yên ổn, vui vầy trong gia đình. Người chồng lấy làm bực mình ngao ngán. Anh ta đã dụng tâm, lắm lúc vắng vợ, thì có lời phải chăng nói với mẹ, luc' vắng mẹ, thì hết sức khuyên răn vợ. Nào ngờ luống công vô ích. Trong nhà thật chẳng còn được chút gì hòa khí, mà mỗi ngày lại càng thêm khó chịu hơn. Đôi bên xung khắc kịch liệt, rút lại chỉ một mình anh chồng ở giữa là khổ. Anh ta bèn nghĩ ra một kế, rồi một hôm ra chợ mua một con dao bầu thật lớn, đem về cứ mài mài, liếc liếc mãi. 

Vợ lấy làm lạ hỏi. Anh ta chẳng nói chẳng rằng. Dao mài xong lại cất đi. Cách vài hôm sau lại đem dao ra mài nữa. Vợ hỏi anh ta cũng nhất định không nói.

Năm ba lần như thế, vợ quyết hỏi cho ra lẽ, anh ta mới chịu nói: "Tôi mài dao đây chỉ định hễ có dịp là thịt mẹ đấy thôi. Mình tính xem mẹ bây giờ đã già, chẳng chết trước cũng chết sau, thế nào cũng chết một lần. Nếu cứ để mẹ sống ở đời, nay to tiếng cùng mình, mai cãi cọ cùng mình, ngày kia bới móc chửi rủa mình, mình tuy phận dâu con, mình cũng chẳng chịu, đôi bên thành ra bất bình xô xát với nhau để xóm giềng người ta sỉ vả tôi. Tôi không sao chịu được. Tôi phải tính cho xong mẹ thì tôi mới được yên vui cùng mình, vợ chồng ta mới hòng có lúc sung sướng". Chồng nói như thế làm cho vợ phải suy nghĩ rồi đâm ra hối hận. Và từ hôm đó, đổi cả tâm tính, cả cách cư xử với mẹ chồng, không còn gì là ngang ngạnh nữa.

Chồng thấy thế đã mừng lòng. Đợi ít lâu, chồng lại mang dao ra mài. Mài đi mài lại thật sắc, rồi thử đi thử lại đôi ba lần. Vợ thấy vậy trong lòng nôn nao, người run lẩy bẩy. Một lát chồng gọi lại bảo: "Hôm nay tao phải ăn thịt mẹ đây". Rồi săm săm đến gần chỗ mẹ nằm làm bộ như định giết mẹ thật. Chị chàng hốt hoảng, vội vàng chạy theo giữ lại: "Thôi tôi trăm lạy mình, nghìn lạy mình. Trăm tội, nghìn tội là ở nơi tôi cả, chớ không ở như mẹ già. Mình đừng làm thế mà oan uổng mẹ cả đôi tạ Từ rày tôi xin tu tỉnh lại và hứa rằng không còn một điều gì to tiếng với mẹ nữa".

Rồi quả nhiên từ hôm đó, trong nhà hòa thuận vui vẻ, nàng dâu ăn ở với mẹ chồng quý hóa hơn là con gái đối với mẹ đẻ vậy.

List of Vietnamese fairy tales

Once  upon a time, in Ha-bi village lived a man named Yet Kieu who worked as a fisher. One night, while he was strolling along the seaside he saw two large buffaloes fighting on the beach. He sprinted to poke them apart. Buffalos were beaten painful they ran toward to the sea then disappeared. “Those creatures aren’t normal”, he thought then he turned back where buffaloes had been fighting and picked up some fur they had left. He gazed them then suddenly swallowed them down. From that he had the strength that nobody could fight against. Especially, he could stay in the water longer than any people in the world.
