170. Tiếng đàn tri âm

Bá Nha, người đời nhà Tấn, làm quan Thượng Đại Phụ Một hôm đi sứ nước Sở trở về, đến sông Hán Dương, nhằm đêm Trung Thu trăng thanh gió mát, ông bảo quân dừng thuyền lại để uống rượu thưởng trăng. Thừa hứng, Bá Nha đem đàn ra gảy.
Nhưng bản đàn chưa dứt, dây đàn bỗng đứt. Bá Nha lấy làm kinh ngạc, nghĩ thầm:
- Chỗ này núi cao, non thẳm, sông dài, lẽ đâu có người biết nghe đàn làm cho dây đàn vội đứt. Hẳn đây là quân trộm cướp chăng?
Đoạn truyền quân lên bờ tìm bắt. Bỗng có tiếng một chàng trẻ tuổi vọng xuống:
- Xin đại nhân chớ nghi, tôi là đứa trẻ đốn củi mộc mạc, thấy khúc đàn hay nên dừng chân nghe thử.
Bá Nha mỉm cười, bảo:
- Có lẽ đâu một tên tiều phu mà lại biết nghe đàn!
Chàng tiều phu đáp:
- Xin lỗi đại nhân! Đại nhân nói như vậy chẳng là lầm lắm. Thánh nhân xưa có nói: Hễ trong nhà có quân tử thì ngoài cửa có quân tử đến. Nếu đại nhân khi chỗ núi non rừng bụi không có người biết nghe dàn thì ở nơi sông vắng đêm khuya này chẳng lẽ có khách biết đàn.
Nghe có chiều hữu lý, nhưng Bá Nha lại hỏi:
- Ngươi bảo nghe được đàn, vậy ta đàn bài gì đây?
- Dạ, đại nhân đàn bài Đức Khổng Tử than tiếc thày Nhan Hồị Bài ấy như vầy:
Khả tích Nhan Hồi mạng tảo vương,
Giao nhân tư tưởng mấn như sương.
Chỉ nhơn lậu hạng đơn biều lạc,
Lưu đắc hiền danh vạn cổ dương. (*)
Bá Nha cho là hay, mời khách xuống thuyền đàm đạọ Nhưng nhìn thấy khách là một chàng trai trẻ tuổi, quần bô áo vải thì có vẻ xem thường. Bá Nha không nói gì, ôm đàn sửa dây gảy một bản hướng về ý cao siêụ Bản đàn vừa dứt, chàng tiều phu cười nói:
- Hay! Hay! Ý đại nhân vọi vọi ở non cao (Nga nga hề chỉ tại sơn).
Bá Nha lại gảy một bản đàn khác hướng về tình cảm mênh mang, khoáng đãng. Chàng tiều phu cười nói:
- Hay! Hay! Ý đại nhân cuồn cuộn nơi nước chảy (Dương dương hề chí tại lưu thủy).
Bá Nha lấy làm khâm phục, đứng dậy xốc áo xin lỗi và hỏi danh tánh. Chàng tiều phu xưng là họ Chung tên Tử Kỳ.
Cả hai trò chuyện, lấy làm tương đắc. Bá Nha lại mời Tử Kỳ cùng theo mình về triều để hưởng cuộc sống giàu sang. Tử Kỳ thở dài, bảo: Vì còn cha mẹ già, phận làm con phải ở bên quạt nồng ấp lạnh, thần tỉnh mộ quang phụng dưỡng.
Vì việc quan cần cấp, Bá Nha phải sớm về triềụ Lại ước hẹn với Tử Kỳ là sang năm ngày này, tháng này, Bá Nha sẽ đem thuyền đến đón cả gia quyến của Tử Kỳ về triều, vậy chàng hãy chờ đợi tại đây.

Rồi đến mùa thu năm sau, Bá Nha đem thuyền đến đón tại vàm sông Hán Dương cạnh núi Mã An. Bá Nha chờ đợi mãi nhưng không thấy Tử Kỳ đến. Buồn bã, Bá Nha lại ôm đàn gảỵ Tiếng đàn hôm nay sao lại ai oán vô cùng. Lòng Bá Nha nghi hoặc một điềm bất thường xảy đến.
Sáng lại, Bá Nha lên bờ, lần bước thăm hỏi nhà Tử Kỳ. Đến nơi mới hay Tử Kỳ vừa chết trong một cơn bạo bịnh. Chung ông lại cho biết rằng: Trước khi chết, Tử Kỳ lại trối phải chôn chàng bên mé sông Hán Dương, cạnh núi Mã An để chàng giữ lời hẹn với Bá Nha năm xưa là đến đó đón người.
Bá Nha tìm đến mộ Tử Kỳ, bày đồ tế lễ, rồi lấy đàn gảy một bài ai điếu và khóc lóc thảm thiết. Đàn xong Bá Nha bèn đập đàn vào đá tan nát, thề trọn đời không đàn nữa vì đã hết bạn tri âm.
Trong tác phẩm "Lục Vân Tiên" của cụ Đồ Chiểu có câu:
Than rằng lưu thủy cao san,
Ngày nào nghe đặng tiếng đàn tri âm.
Trong "Đoạn trường tân thanh" của cụ Nguyễn Du, đoạn Kim Trọng yêu cầu Kiều đánh đàn cho nghe, có câu:
Rằng: "Nghe nổi tiếng cầm đài,
Nước non luống những lắng tai Chung Kỳ".
Cổ thi cũng có câu: "Bất tích ca giả khổ, Đãn thương tri âm hy" nghĩa là: "Không tiếc người hát khó nhọc, chỉ đau đớn người tri âm ít mà thôi".
