207. Cây sồi già

Trong khu rừng rậm kia có một cây sồi mọc lên từ lâu năm lắm rồi . Cây Sồi Già rất hãnh diện - không phải vì cái dáng uy nghi sừng sững của nó với một thân cây to lớn vững chắc từ đó đâm ra những cành lá tạo thành một vùng đầy bóng mát cho một khoảng rừng - nó hãnh diện vì đã giúp cho cô Hoạ Mi có nơi làm tổ trên chót vót ngọn cây. Sồi Già còn tạo cho chú Sóc Nâu một nơi cư trú chứa đầy thức ăn bằng những trái sồi tươi ngon. Và ngay ở dưới gốc, các rễ cây khổng lồ đã tạo thành một cái hang lý tưởng cho gia đình Thỏ Xám . 

Nói tóm lại, đây là một nơi ẩn thân thoải mái cho các loài vật trong rừng. Nhưng hỡi ơi, cái vẻ đẹp kỳ vĩ đó cũng là một tai hoạ cho Cây Sồi Già ... Thân gổ qúy của nó cũng là mục tiêu để hai người tiều phu lực lưỡng trong vùng thèm thuồng . Mấy ngày nay, họ đã vào rừng, dựng trại chuẩn bị cho công việc đốn cây, xẻ gỗ đem bán . Và rồi một sáng đẹp trời kia, trong khi cô Hoạ Mi bay đi tìm mồi cho bầy con, Thỏ Xám và Sóc Nâu tung tăng vui đùa khắp nơi cùng các chú bướm và các đoá hoa dại bên đường thì họ- người vác búa, kẻ xách cưa - bắt đầu chặt bớt các cành của Cây Sồi Già bằng những nhát búa sắc bén . Tội nghiệp Cây Sồi Già, nó đau đớn rên rỉ mà chẳng làm sao kháng cự được . Nhựa cây như máu của nó tuôn ra khắp nơi. Nó cảm thấy toàn thân yếu hẵn, nó nghĩ rằng sẽ không còn chịu đựng bao lâu nữa... Thu hết tàn lực, nó cố gắng làm rung chuyển các cành lá để kêu cứu . Lúc ấy Thỏ và Sóc đang đùa chơi không xa lắm . Chúng nó nghe được tiếng kêu cứu của người bạn già tốt bụng vội chạy như bay về.

Cảnh tượng khủng khiếp và hình ảnh tang thương của Cây Sồi Già hiện ra trước mắt, cả hai đều la lên kinh ngạc:

- Trời ơi! Chuyện gì đã xảy ra ? Làm cách nào để cứu bạn tụi mình ra khỏi tai ương nầy ?

Bỗng trong đầu Sóc Nâu loé lên một phương cách . Nó nói với Thỏ Xám:

- Anh lẻn xuống hang của anh dưới rễ cây ngay đi ! Rồi ráng hết sức bình sinh hú lên và gầm gừ thật lớn ...Nhưng nhớ đừng cho đám người độc ác kia thấy !

Không cần tìm hiểu lý do, Thỏ vâng lời làm những điều Sóc dặn . Thừa dịp 2 người tiều phu trở về lều nghỉ mệt , nó nhảy phóc xuống hang .

Cây Sồi Già thở dài yếu ớt nói với nó:

- Thỏ ơi, chắc là các bạn phải đi tìm một nơi trú thân khác vì tôi sắp chết rồi ...

Thỏ an ủi Cây Sồi Già:

- Ông đừng nói bậy . Chúng tôi sẽ giúp ông ! Ông còn nhớ câu ngạn ngữ: "Vững chắc như cây sồi" không ? . Vậy thì chỉ cần ông kiên nhẫn một chút thì mọi việc sẽ sáng sủa sau đó .

Vừa lúc đó có tiếng một người tiều phu vang lên:

- Khoẻ rồi, tiếp tục làm việc cho xong trong ngày hôm nay !

Họ tiến về hướng cây sồi xơ xác. Nhưng, vừa đúng lúc họ định giáng nhát búa xuống để chặt thân cây thì ...họ dừng tay lại vì nghe những tiếng hú và gầm gừ vang lên từ gốc cây.


Cùng lúc ấy, Sóc Nâu dùng hết sức chuyền thật nhanh từ cành nầy qua cành khác nhất là những cành nặng trĩu trái còn sót lại trên cao . Nó làm rung chuyển các cành thật mạnh khiến các trái sồi rơi rụng như một trận mưa trên đầu hai người tiều phu ở bên dưới . Hai người nầy kinh hoàng nhìn khắp nơi, ngỡ rằng gặp ma, vắt giò lên cổ chạy như bay ra khỏi khu rừng, vất bỏ lại những dụng cụ của họ.

Cây Sồi Già vui mừng cảm động nói với Thỏ và Sóc:

- Cám ơn các bạn thật nhiều . Các bạn đã cứu sống tôi .

Thỏ khoát tay cười nói:

- Đâu có chi ! Chúng tôi nghĩ rằng dù không có chúng tôi giúp thì ông cũng có thể thoát được tai nạn vì ông rất to lớn, cứng cáp thì sớm muộn gì hai người kia cũng bỏ cuộc mà thôi !

Và Thỏ cùng Sóc lấy đất và lá cây khô băng bó vết thương cho Cây Sồi Già . Để tạ ơn cứu mạng, Cây Sồi Già nới rộng khoảng cách những rễ cây để hang của Thỏ Xám được lớn hơn và ông hứa với Sóc Nâu sang năm sẽ cho nhiều trái hơn ...

Vietnamese  fairy tales includes many stories as Tam and Cam; So Dua; Hundred – knot- bamboo tree... which were spread in folk. Each stories has  its own meaning. I think I can not translate exactly each word into english but I will try my best to convey its meaning to you. Hope you like them!

A landlord had heard about him but he didn’t think that he could lie him so he called him came and asked. “I hear you are very well in cheat. Now I sit at here, if you can make me go to the door I will give you this pocket of coins. People here will be witnesses for my words.”, said the landlord. Cuoi expressed as if he was feeling embarrassed. “You have prepared before you sit here so I can not make you go to the door. Now if you stand at the door I can make you come in.”, said Cuoi. Crow and Peacock

De was a young boy. His parent was servants of a landlord. Every morning, De led landlord’s cattle to meadow and brought them back at nightfall. De used to be excited in playing with his fellows and when he was in his game he didn’t care anything. Once  upon a time, in Ha-bi village lived a man named Yet Kieu who worked as a fisher. One night, while he was strolling along the seaside he saw two large buffaloes fighting on the beach. He sprinted to poke them apart. Buffalos were beaten painful they ran toward to the sea then disappeared. “Those creatures aren’t normal”, he thought then he turned back where buffaloes had been fighting and picked up some fur they had left. He gazed them then suddenly swallowed them down. From that he had the strength that nobody could fight against. Especially, he could stay in the water longer than any people in the world.
