202. Ba anh em

Một người có ba con trai, cả cơ nghiệp có một cái nhà. Người con nào cũng muốn sau này, khi bố mất, nhà sẽ về mình. Ông bố thì con nào cũng quí, thành ra rất phân vân, không biết tính sao cho các con vừa lòng. Bán nhà đi thì có tiền chia cho chúng, nhưng là của hương hỏa nên ông không muốn bán. Sau ông nghĩ được một kế, bảo các con:
- Chúng mày hãy đi chu du thiên hạ, thử gan thử sức một phen. Mỗi đứa học lấy một nghề. Đứa nào giỏi nhất, bố cho cái nhà.
Ba người con lấy làm thích lắm. Người con cả muốn trở thành thợ đóng móng ngựa, người thứ hai muốn làm thợ cạo, còn người em út muốn làm thầy dạy võ Ba anh em hẹn nhau ngay về, rồi chia tay ra đi.
Cả ba người đều gặp được thầy giỏi truyền cho biết hết bí quyết nhà nghề. Người đóng móng ngựa được làm việc cho nhà vua và nghĩ bụng:
"Phen này, chắc nhà không thoát khỏi tay mình". Người thợ cạo được sửa tóc cho những nhà quyền quí nên chắc mẩm là được nhà. Anh học võ bị đấm nhiều miếng nhưng vẫn cắn răng chịu, nghĩ bụng:
"Nếu sợ bị đấm thì bao giờ được nhà?".
Đến hẹn, ba anh em trở về nhà. Nhưng chẳng ai biết làm thế nào để thi thố tài nghệ của mình, bèn ngồi bàn với nhau. Đương lúc ấy chợt có một chú thỏ băng qua cánh đồng. Anh thợ cạo reo lên:
"May quá, thật là vừa đúng dịp". Anh liền cầm đĩa xà phòng, đánh bọt, đợi thỏ ta đến gần, anh vừa chạy theo vừa quét xà phòng, cạo râu thỏ mà không hề làm thỏ xầy da chút nào.
Người bố khen:
"Khá lắm! Nếu hai thằng kia không làm được trò gì hay hơn thế thì cho mày cái nhà".
Một lát sau có một cỗ xe ngựa chạy qua như bay.
Anh đóng móng ngựa nói:
"Bố xem tài con nhé!".
Anh liền chạy đuổi theo cỗ xe, tháo bốn móng sắt của một con ngựa và thay luôn bốn móng mới trong khi ngựa vẫn phi đều.
Người bố lại khen:
"Mày giỏi lắm! Mày chẳng kém gì em mày.
Không biết cho đứa nào cái nhà đây!".
Lúc bấy giờ người con út mới nói:
- Thưa bố, bây giờ đến lượt con, bố cho con thử tài.
Vừa lúc ấy trời bắt đầu mưa. Anh ta rút ngay gươm múa kín trên đầu, người không dính một giọt nước nào. Trời mưa ngày càng to, anh ta múa càng hăng, áo quần vẫn khô như đứng nơi kín đáo.
Người bố ngạc nhiên quá reo lên:
- Con thật là tài nhất! Thôi con được cái nhà rồi.
Hai anh cũng phục người em út lắm và đồng ý với cha.
Ba anh em rất mực thương nhau nên ở cùng một nhà, mỗi người làm nghề của mình. Họ tài khéo nên kiếm được nhiều tiền.
Họ sống sung sướng như vậy mãi cho đến lúc tuổi già, một người ốm chết, hai người kia buồn rầu cũng chết theo. Cả ba anh em vừa khéo vừa giỏi, lại vừa quí mến lẫn nhau, đều được chôn chung một mộ.

Once  upon a time, there was an idiot whose name was Ngoc. Ngoc had a wife who didn’t like him to stay home and do nothing.
