188. Mèo làm thân với chuột - Truyện cổ Grim

Mèo làm thân với chuột. Mèo kể lể tâm tình tha thiết, chuột nghe bùi tai đồng ý ăn ở chung với mèo.
Mèo bảo:
- Ta phải đề phòng mùa rét kẻo rồi bị đói. Chú mày chớ có đi lại liều lĩnh kẻo rồi mắc bẫy đấy.
Chuột nghe lời. Chúng đi mua một niêu mỡ nhưng không biết cất đâu. Suy nghĩ mãi, mèo bảo:
"Anh thấy chẳng còn nơi nào cất tốt bằng ở nhà thờ vì ở đấy không ai dám lấy gì đi. Cánh ta đem cất niêu dưới gầm bàn thờ, chưa cần mỡ thì ta nhất định không rờ đến".
Thế là chúng cất niêu thật kỹ. Nhưng chẳng bao lâu mèo ta thèm mỡ, nói với chuột:
- Chú chuột ạ, anh muốn nói với chú điều này. Anh có người chị họ mời đến làm bố đỡ đầu cho cháu. Chị ấy sinh được con trai, lông trắng đốm nâu, anh phải đi dự lễ đỡ đầu. Hôm nay anh đi, chú ở nhà trông coi nhà cửa một mình nhé.
Chuột đáp:
- Vâng vâng, lạy Chúa ban phước lành cho anh đi, có miếng ngon, anh nhớ lấy phần về cho em nhé. Em ao ước được nhắp rượu vang đỏ ngọt.
Nhưng tất cả những điều mèo nói đều sai cả. Mèo chẳng có chị em họ nào, mà cũng chẳng có ai mời đến làm lễ đỡ đầu. Nó đến thẳng nhà thờ, lén đến niêu mỡ, ăn xong liếm lông cho sạch mỡ. Rồi nó dạo chơi trên mái nhà thành phố, nhìn quanh quẩn, nằm ườn sưởi nắng, mỗi lần nhớ đến niêu mỡ lại chùi mép. Mãi đến chiều nó mới về nhà.
Chuột nói:
- Thế nào, anh đã về đấy à? Chắc là cả ngày nhởn nhơ vui thú lắm nhỉ?
- Ừ thú lắm.
Chuột hỏi:
- Đứa trẻ đặt tên đỡ đầu là g´?
Mèo đáp gọn thon lỏn:
- "Liếm sạch lông".
Chuột reo lên:
- Sao lại là "Liếm sạch lông". Thật là một cái tên lạ lùng, hiếm có. Trong họ anh, tên ấy có thông thường không?
Mèo nói:
- Có gì lạ đâu! Tên ấy cũng không có gì xấu hơn tên "Ăn cắp vặt" là tên đỡ đầu của chú?
Cách đó ít lâu, mèo lại nổi cơn thèm, nói với chuột:
- Chú làm ơn giúp anh nhé. Nhờ chú trông nom nhà cửa một mình chuyến nữa. Anh lại có người mời đi làm bố đỡ đầu lần thứ hai. Đứa trẻ có vòng lông trắng quanh cổ, anh không tiện từ chối.
Chuột tốt bụng, nhận lời. Mèo kín đáo đi đến nhà thờ ăn thêm một nửa niêu mỡ. Nó nghĩ bụng:
"Không gì ngon hơn là ăn một mình", và lấy làm thú vị về việc làm ngày hôm đó. Khi về nhà, chuột hỏi:
- Thế nào anh, tên đỡ đầu của đứa trẻ là gì?
Mèo đáp:
- "Hết một nửa" - Sao lại "Hết một nửa"? Anh nói gì thế? Từ thủa cha sinh mẹ đẻ, em chưa nghe thấy tên ấy bao giờ. Em cuộc là tên ấy không có ở trong lịch sử.
Sau đó ít lâu, nghĩ đến mỡ, mèo lại thèm nhỏ dãi. Nó liền bảo chuột:
- Qúa tam ba bận. Anh lại phải đứng ra làm bố đỡ đầu. Đứa trẻ đen tuyền. Trừ chân trắng, không có một sợi lông trắng nào trên người, thật là mấy năm mới có một lận sinh thế. Chú mày để anh đi nhé! Chuột đáp:
- "Liếm sạch lông", "Hết một nửa", tên gì mà qui? quái thế, em cứ suy nghĩ mãi đấy.
Mèo nói:
- Chú cứ ru rú xó nhà với cái áo lông màu xám thẫm và cái đuôi dài mà nghĩ lẩn thẩn. Ấy chẳng qua là tại cả ngày không chịu đi ra ngoài đấy thôi! Trong khi mèo đi vắng, chuột dọn dẹp nhà cửa ngăn nắp. Mèo háu ăn chén sạch niêu mỡ. Nó nghĩ bụng:
"Chỉ chén kỳ hết mới yên tâm". Mãi đến đêm, nó mới về nhà, no nứt bụng. Chuột hỏi luôn tên đứa trẻ được rửa tội là gì. Mèo đáp:
- Chắc là chú không vừa lòng đâu! Tên nó là "Hết sạch".
Chuột kêu:
- "Hết sạch", thật là một tên lạ lùng. Em chưa đọc thấy tên ấy bao giờ. "Hết sạch" thế là nghĩa lý gì nhỉ?
Nó lắc đầu, nằm cuộn tròn người lại ngủ.
Từ đó trở đi, chẳng có ai đến mời mèo đi làm bố đỡ đầu nữa.
Nhưng khi mùa đông tới, ra ngoài đồng không kiếm được gì ăn nữa, chuột mới nghĩ đến thức ăn để dành:
- Anh mèo ạ, ta đi tìm niêu mỡ để dành đi, chắc là ngon lắm đấy.
Mèo đáp:
- Được. Hẳn chú sẽ thấy ngon lắm, ngon như thể lưỡi liếm không khí ấy mà! Chúng ra đi, tới nơi thì thấy niêu vẫn còn nguyên chỗ cũ nhưng chỉ có niêu không.
Chuột bảo:
- Thì ra thế, bây giờ tôi mới hiểu các việc đã xảy ra. Bây giờ mới rõ anh thật là bạn tốt. Anh đã đánh chén hết. Anh làm cha đỡ đầu như thế đấy:
Lần đầu "Liếm sạch lông", lần sau "Hết một nửa", rồi....
Mèo hét lên:
- Câm mồm ngay. Mày còn nói tiếng nữa là tao ăn thịt mày đấy.
Tội nghiệp con chuột không k´m được tiếng:
- "Hết sạch".
Vừa nói buông miệng thì mèo đã vồ nó nuốt chửng.
Bạn xem đấy, tình đời là thế đấy! Các em có những suy nghĩ gì về câu chuyện này? Mèo xấu tính, tán tận lương tâm hay chuột khờ dại? Nói thế nào cũng đều đúng cả. Ai đời chuột lại chơi với mèo. Các em có bao giờ nghe câu nói:
“Chọn bạn mà chơi chưa"? Trong cuộc đời có nhiều người tốt nhưng cũng lắm kẻ xấu. Nếu các em kết bạn với kẻ xấu thì các em sẽ nhận được hậu quả như con chuột trong truyện đấy!
