People died because of money, birds died because of food

Two brothers had lost their parent so they lived together until the older brother got married. The older brother and his wife were greedy; the younger bother in other side was innocent because of young; they didn’t want to live with the younger brother so they decided to division assets which was inherited from their parent. The couple took all things but a hut and a piece of farm which were left to the younger brother.

Though that the younger brother didn’t feel unhappy he was pleasant to receive what he was divided. He plowed very hard in the farm but it was very unfortunate he didn’t have any seeds. Therefore, he came to his brother’s home he insisted his brother to have seeds. The couple agreed but, you will have never thought about, all seeds were boiled before they were given to the poor younger brother. The younger brother didn’t have any doubt he brought them to his farm and planted. So, almost of the seeds didn’t germinate but a seed which had stayed on the pannier when the couple poured the seeds into a pot to boil grew up a sapling. 
The younger brother was very sad but he still took care of the tree. Everyday, he watered it, caught insects. The tree grew up so fast that was higher than people’s head and had many boughs. It took no long time to become a giant tree, then it bloom, very many flowers; short time later fruit appeared then they riped. The younger brother was very happy he stayed under the tree to guard.
One day, a eagle appeared and already to eat the fruit. The younger brother saw that he seized his rod ran toward and nearly to shot it but the eagle suddenly spoke.
“Don’t beat me. I will pay for it.”   
The younger brother stopped, he asked: “How can you pay.”
“Evening I will bring you to a island in which had many treasures.”, replied the eagle.
That night the eagle came back it talked the younger brother to hold its legs then the eagle fluttered flew away. They spent long time flying to the island which was in middle of sea the younger brother could see a lot of treasures which were glittering. But the island was to near the sun so whenever the sun rose it would burn all things in the island. Therefore, when they just came the eagle insisted him to hurry up. The younger brother seized some things in hurry then he and the eagle went back together.
Then the younger brother bought great farm, buit big house, nice clothes and hired servants. The couple saw the things they didn’t know how the younger brother can be rich so they came to ask. The younger brother talked them all story then the older bother wanted to have the fortune so he insisted the younger brother to lend him the tree. The younger brother agreed.
Then the eagle came again. The older brother pretended that he prepared to shot it and all things had done as the before time the eagle promised to bring him to the island. They came to the island. Front of the older brother’eyes now was a mountain of gold, silver and diamond. He was overwhelmed and didn’t know what he should take. Then he was confused in finding, forgot the eagle’s words. When the sun nearly rose the eagle flew away the older brother still sunk into collecting till the sun rose and burn his back he sprinted to find the eagle but he couldn’t find out.
The younger brother didn’t see his brother back so he found the eagle and asked it to bring his brother’s body back. When the eagle came the island it saw the older brother had been baked and spread an attractive flavor. The eagle flew down and started tearing. It ate and continued till the sun rose without noticing. Its feathers caught fire very fast then it sunk into fire and died. That was all things happened.

Vietnamese  fairy tales includes many stories as Tam and Cam; So Dua; Hundred – knot- bamboo tree... which were spread in folk. Each stories has  its own meaning. I think I can not translate exactly each word into english but I will try my best to convey its meaning to you. Hope you like them!

Thuong Luong

Thuong Luong was common name of creatures which are in people’s imagines. They are distant relatives of dragons. While dragons are worshiped as gods, the gods ruled rivers and sea and the gods can make rains, Thuong Luong is not respected as dragons that the creatures are too amorous, combative, wild, and have bad behaviors. All most of them like to harm people.

Crow and Peacock
